Nixon Renomination Hints From White House Aide

SAN FRANCISCO UP Close associates of President Eisenhower said today the President expected the Republican National Convention to renominate Vice President Richard Nixon. Eisenhower staff members anticipated no flare up on the convention floor when Nixon’s name is offered at this afternoon’s session. The White House stance showed no change in his position, as aides said he would be happy to have Nixon on the ticket again but the convention must choose. Harold Stassen pressed his bid to block the Nixon steamroller, seeking the vice presidential nomination for Gov Christian Herter of Massachusetts, but aides reported no request for an appointment from Stassen. Fire at Spring Lake Farm Wipes Out Barns and Livestock

A Tuesday fire on Eldon Pat Dahike’s Spring Lake farm south of here destroyed a large L shaped barn and damaged two smaller buildings. Five head of livestock perished, four trapped in the barn and one escaping then returning to the flames. Two heifers and a bull were saved by neighbors. Fire departments from Redgranite, Wautoma, and Wisconsin Conservation crews fought the blaze, using water from a pond and nearby creek as supplies ran low. Loss estimated between 35,000 and 40,000 dollars, with most of the hay on the upper floor ruined and the main barn structure heavily damaged. The cause was not determined, but spontaneous combustion was ruled out.
