French troops under Gen Raymond Duval fired on crowds in Casablanca Carrieres Cedrales as mobs marked the exile anniversary of Sidi Mohammed Ben Youssef. Riots erupted in Boujad and Oue Zem with several dead and injured reported.
William C Bouck 31 of 905 Algoma Blvd a prominent Oshkosh attorney died Friday at Mercy Hospital after a illness. Born Feb 22 1874 in Fultonham N Y he was educated in Yonkers NY and Cornell Law School. He joined Oshkosh practice in 1895 and led Bouck Hilton Kinwin Dempsey Magnusen firms.
Former Finance Minister Ong Eng Die was placed under house arrest in Jakarta pending investigation into alleged corruption while in office. He is the second former cabinet member detained in the anti corruption push led by the Army and Prime Minister Burhanuddin Harahap.
A deceased Oshkosh man, member of Oshkosh Lodge of Masons, Oshkosh Elks, and Knights of Pythias, is survived by several nephews with one brother Charles and two sisters Margaret and Katherine preceded in death. Funeral services are set for Monday at 2 pm conducted by Oshkosh Lodge of Elks at Fiss & Bills Funeral Home, burial in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 2 pm until services. An accompanying photo from about 1942 is the most recent available.
A 26-year-old Oshkosh man, Raymond G. Pitz of 213 Church Street, died of poliomyelitis at St. Vincent Hospital. The report notes he was the city’s first polio death of the season, with other cases including an 11-year-old girl admitted to Mercy Hospital. Judith F. Gall, 14, and her brother Jeffry C. Gall, 11, were diagnosed with bulbar polio at Mercy Hospital, where Judith was improving. Several other local polio victims were listed as progressing, with updates on children and adults at Mercy Hospital and facilities in Chicago for treatment.
Russell Gehrmann 31 of 635 Maple St Neenah died at 1 17 am at Theda Clark Hospital after five days ill. Born April 4 1925 in Waukegan IL he lived most of his life in Neenah. A Neenah High School graduate class of 1932 World War I veteran, he worked for V and R Foods and was about to start at First Credit Co. Survivors include wife Pearl parents Thomas and Mary Gehrmann Neenah a daughter Patsy two sons Thomas and Terry and brother Garry. Services Tuesday at 2 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church Neenah Rev G I Schaefer officiating. Friends may call Westgor Funeral Home Monday 4 pm to 9 pm and at the church Tuesday noon until service. Children 16 and under excluded from funeral home and church.

The 32 crew were rescued by the liner Kangsholm after a fire and fumes situation. Weather forecasters warn of worsening squalls but a 50 50 chance Argobeam stays afloat.
Manila report says President Ramon Magsaysay and Senator Claro Recto confront a party split as the Nationalista convention opens. Magsaysay seeks to purge Recto from the ticket over ongoing opposition to administration foreign policy and past dissents.
President Eisenhower named P Ray Rodgers acting chairman of the National Labor Relations Board after Guy Farmer resigned for personal reasons. Rodgers, a Republican and former chief clerk of the Senate Labor Committee, lives in Silver Spring Maryland. Farmers departure creates a new vacancy on the board.
The Soviet Union announced support for future atoms for peace conferences and said it will supply atomic reactors and fuels to Communist nations including Red China. Lavrishchev outlined a broad aid program with tritium and other fuels, and noted locations in Lenin grad Kiev Kharkov and Moscow. The United States sold a large swimming pool reactor to Switzerland at a cut rate, while Albania was excluded from the aid plan.
A drinking fountain at Idaho Falls airport is described as a prankish device that hovers low before spraying water upward. Authorities posted a local colored warning sign to deter close bending. Nearby Old Faithful lies 70 miles northeast in Yellowstone Park.

Sgt. James C. Gallagher, 23, Brooklyn, was found guilty by an eight officer court martial in New York of unpremeditated murder and other charges for killing two prisoners in a Korean POW camp. He faces life with hard labor and may appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court after two automatic reviews.
Polio cases in epidemic Massachusetts fell today with 62 new infections raising the year total to 1,606. Boston reported 504 cases and the New England total reached 2,073. Dr. Roy F. Feemster predicted a sharp decline after next week.
