Death Toll Reaches 644 in Wisconsin Highway Toll
Wisconsin's 1966 highway death toll reached 644 today, up from 600 a year earlier. Motorcycles contributed two recent fatalities. George R. Smith, 28, of La Mesa California, died when his motorcycle left County Trunks north of Bailey's Harbor in Door County. Mears, 43, of rural Hillpoint, perished when his car ran off State Highway 23 and struck a tree south of Plain in Sauk County.

Washington AP The House Un American Activities Committee ended its questioning of antiwar group witnesses after ejecting two and a dozen spectators. Acting Chairman Joseph Pool said the hearings revealed group leadership as hard core communists acting for foreign powers. Rubin of Berkeley protested and was escorted out after being dismissed. The panel plans to hear witnesses on bills to punish interference with Vietnam mobilization next week, with Cherkoss and Hamilton of Berkeley ejected earlier for refusing to leave the stand. Youth Drowns Retrieving Boat Near Wilson Lake
