Fairbanks Alaska faces a major flood with at least three dead and up to 10 000 residents moved to evacuation centers. Nine feet of floodwater swamped downtown as fires burned, roads and railways were cut, and authorities warned of further danger as helicopters and boats delivered aid.

County Fair Opens With Living Color Theme
The Winnebago County Fair in Oshkosh opens Youth Day with 87 booths 21 rides and about 40 concession stands. Manager Robert Misky reports ground crowds expected by noon. Woman Killed In Car Train Crash Near Black Creek
A 50 year old woman, Laura Helena Helein of Black Creek, died when her car collided with a Soo Line freight train five miles south of Black Creek at 1 15 pm Tuesday. The car skidded into the engine, the auto dragged 730 feet, and rescuers freed her after about an hour. The engineer reported the train was traveling 35 mph. Outagamie County tolls rose to 15 highway deaths for the year. Also reported: a Burlington man, Leonard Barbeau, 22, died after his car left a Racine County highway near Burlington. Sigurd Johnson, 56, of Bloomer, died after a barricade collision on Highway 53 near Eau Claire.

Nine Slain In Saskatchewan Farm Massacre
Nine members of the Peterson family are slain at their white oil-room farm house near Shell Lake Saskatchewan. James Peterson 47 his wife Evelyn 42 and seven of their eight children aged 1 to 17 are dead. four-year-old Phillis survived. A near-by aunt and uncle take custody of the frightened child. The bodies were found by neighbor Wildrew Lang who reported the murders after arriving to help with grain bins. A stray mongrel pup trembled on the porch and the motive is unknown with no suspect. Police say .22 caliber bullets killed all nine and powder burns indicate close range.

Post haste Washington says the White House mail is not special. Last Saturday President Johnson sent a special delivery letter to the National Student Association annual meeting in College Park Maryland about a half hour from the White House. The hand stamped set ter with return address and 45 cents postage arrived Tuesday.
