Race Riot Hits Greenville Cotton Mills Injures Six

An evening race riot near the Soa cotton mills in Greenville South Carolina left one white man and five black workers wounded. The rioters pursued the fleeing group to the mill operator Mr Green’s house before capturing a leader who was jailed. A bluff of lynching fears drew about 200 white allies to the scene and a pitched battle ensued. Ben Odom was the only other white wounded.

Philadelphia clash over union demand grows as 14 non union men arrive aboard the Endeavor led by Charles William Edwards. Argo Wins This Afternoon’s Race Against Lassie and Iota

In a southeast breeze with calm seas, Argo led from the start and finished three minutes ahead of Lassie in the third trial race. Iota trailed as the trio rounded buoys with Argo posting the best times, including a 3 10 20 home. Brighton Beach Draws Thousands for Arion Band Concert

Menasha Wis August 7 thousands flooded Brighton Beach for an Arion band concert and a local ball game between rival clubs the Menashas and Oldheads. Menasha won 5 to 4 with Augustine striking out seven first batters. Outside players Blewett and Sonn aided the Oldheads.

Enjoyable Afternoon Excursion to Brighton Beach
