Guardsmen Patrol Milwaukee Perimeter During Riots
About 4,800 National Guardsmen from Oshkosh Neenah Berlin and Ripon moved into Milwaukee to establish a 105 block perimeter in the North 27th to North First and Burleigh to State Streets area. They manned intersections searched vehicles checked IDs and enforced a 7 pm curfew with riot control drills and C rations as residents watched in a tense, hushed city.

Two Auto Collisions Hit Oshkosh. $700 Damages Reported
On East Parkway Avenue at North Main Street a two car crash caused $700 damage. Alfonso Mancuso of Blackwood New Jersey said a northbound vehicle veered into his lane to avoid collision. Janet Grosskopf of Oshkosh reported no injuries. A second crash at Main Street and Scott Avenue involved Thomas Last and Jon Ludwig. no injuries. Police logged the incidents around 8:43 am and 8:01 pm respectively.

Koehn Backs Crawford Parking Plan in Oshkosh
Richard Koehn, chair of the downtown parking committee, says most merchants will support City Manager Angus Crawford's parking recommendations. The committee endorsed the plan, which calls for expansion of downtown parking with some costs to be borne by downtown property owners. Koehn notes a few may balk but argues the added parking is essential for a prosperous downtown and healthy community. He stresses parking must be adequate and close to stores. Oshkosh police report a 1959 Chevrolet convertible stolen from Airway Auto Sales on Ohio Street has been found in a farmer's field on Highway 76 by Winnebago County deputies. The car owner is Larry Miller of 1701 Kentucky Street. Investigation continues.
