Charge Mattoon Ill youth charged with killing five Cox children
Thomas Charles Fulleril, 18, who dated Louise Cox, 16, was held on five murder charges after five Cox children were found shot to death on their farm near Mattoon, Illinois. Fulleril, a high school senior, was captured in Charleston and arraigned with warrants naming Lewis, Kenneth, Gary, Mary Katherine, and Theresa Cox as victims.

Fire claims life of Hattie Sorensen near Pine River
Mrs. Hattie Sorensen aged 77 died from asphyxiation and burns after a Saturday fire destroyed her farm home on County Trunk E south of Pine River. Her husband Oscar and son Glenn found the home filled with smoke and notified neighbors. Firemen returned to battle renewed flames Sunday morning. Coroner Ben Brownell listed death for Sorensen asphyxiation with severe burns. Funeral services are set for Tuesday at Hempel Funeral Home Redgranite with burial in Pine River Cemetery. the casket will be closed.

Young Madison Girl Dies in Fire
In Madison an 81 year old girl, Gina Kendrick, died when a two story frame house burned on Saturday. Neighbors and family members tried to reach her room on the second floor as flames trapped her. Gina was among seven Kendrick children. The fire forced reflections of the home as rocks were thrown to aid escape and an 18 year old tried to raise a ladder before flames drove him back.
