A Racine freshman, Larry Johnson, 19, died from a single chest wound after a birthday party at an upper apartment in Butte des Morts. James Bland, another Racine freshman, admitted possessing the gun and is being held without charge as investigations continue. Autopsy showed the bullet pierced the left lung and heart area. Four 19 year old youths died and a fifth was injured when their convertible skidded on a wet Highway 32 near the Milwaukee County line in Racine County. The victims were Michael B. Conklin, Dennis H. St. Clair, D. Hebel, and Ronald K. Lakey from Cudahy and Oak Creek. The car left the road at 3 10 am and struck a tree. the driver could not be determined. Lakey from Oak Creek survived, others died at St Luke's Hospital. Nearby Green Bay saw Raymond Hertel Jr., 22, die when his car hit a parked auto and a passenger was injured. In Dane County, Dale G. Parsons, 24, of Princeton was killed on Highway 12 west of Cambridge. James Day of Berlin injured. William R. Rumppe, 25, of Sun Prairie died on the Dane County Trunk road east of Madison. James G. Lawton, 41, of Milwaukee, died when his car overturned on Interstate 94 in Jefferson County.
