Racine Wisconsin suffered a major downtown blaze that burned eight hours and gutted two four story buildings. Fire Chief Thomas Hartnett estimated losses at at least 200000 with smoke and water damage to adjacent structures. Firefighters evacuated residents and two women were overcome by smoke. The Alshuler building housed a five and ten store and beauty shop while the Mason building held hosiery stores offices and apartments.
