A major blaze destroyed a large portion of Winneconne Wisconsin’s Main Street. The fire began near Wright barn and swept east, consuming Zimdars Brothers general store and blacksmith shop, a livery stable, restaurant, bakery, Moran’s saloon and more. Total losses reach about 325,000 with under half covered by insurance. Local volunteers formed a makeshift brigade and, with aid from nearby towns, prevented the fire from reaching the river and neighboring drugstore. Wright barn horse died, and several families lost homes. The hardest hit was Zinidars Brothers with estimated 10,000 loss and 5,000 insurance.
