WASHINGTON UPI President Nixon may struggle to nominate an FBI director meeting Senate demands for independence from the White House and strong law enforcement background. Senators propose a seven year term and nonpolitical status, while potential candidates face disqualifying issues and unclear timing for the decision.
James W. McCord testifies in sworn deposition that over two weeks last April he escorted Martha Mitchell to and from Mitchell's apartment almost daily and sometimes checked for electronic bugs. He also describes accompanying a security chief to receive a death threat call as part of Watergate investigations.
Wisconsin's Sentry Food Stores will lower beef pork and lamb prices below the Nixon ceiling next week. James E. Godfrey, chair, says most meats will be under the ceiling when price lists post. The northern section of the west service road along Highway 41 will be closed to traffic Tuesday and Wednesday April 10 and WW. announced Robert Graf county highway commissioner. The closure allows installation of a high pressure gas main about 200 feet north of Highway 21. Signs will guide motorists during the closure.
Fred Charles Ikle, 48, named director of the Arms Centre and Disarmament Agency, urges developing precise missiles to target military and industrial assets rather than people. He proposes underground missiles that could be released weeks after a war. Ikle challenges assured destruction and warns current policy risks mass civilian slaughter.
The Madison AP reports a week of legislative hearings across Milwaukee and the Capitol. Key items include three public cable proposals and four nursing home regulations, with sessions in various rooms and times from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. across Tuesday through Thursday.
Jerard Jensen a Milwaukee native and UW-Oshkosh urban and regional studies senior leads UW Oshkosh Urban Affairs Society as president and has assisted Oshkosh with federal urban funding applications. Among 40 finalists from hundreds he will interview in New York City on April 9, with 20 Fellows to be selected and a stipend of 4000 dollars plus travel expenses.
