Milford Sherwin Wins First Prize at Fall Fair Hogs

Milford Sherwin topped a long list of livestock and produce exhibitors in a multi category judging day. The record shows Milfred Sherwin winning best Hog prize and high marks for eggs and poultry in Brown and White varieties. Local growers such as Mrs Ed Dean, Mrs Art Richards, Mary Bowen and Roy Ball appear among top hands with ribbons for beets beans apples and vegetables. The event also highlights Beets, Beams, Carrots and Apples as part of a large agricultural showcase carried through by Geo B Bickle & Son and J H Jose among others.

Ontario to cut AA gasoline rationing 60 percent for motorists

Ontario motorists in the AA category face a 60 percent reduction in six month gas rations beginning October 1 1942. About 100000 drivers including non essential car owners and housewives will switch to AA with monthly averages dropping from about 400 to 214 miles. The change aims to conserve fuel for war needs with reassignment based on essential travel and available transportation.

A report states 92 972 000 Indians, about one quarter of the population, are not British subjects. They live in the Indian States which span nearly two-fifths of India's area and are not British territory.

Dr Brown Addresses Park Street Church Audience in Orono

Chancellor of Victoria College Toronto Dr Brown spoke on The Great Stone Face at Park Street Church Convo cation Hall to about three hundred university freshmen and larger crowd. The service featured scripture readings by four readers, songs, and a concluding duet, with awards for decorations by Mr Porter and Mrs Staples.

Bacon Hog Competition Winners At Orono Fair

The T Baton Co sponsored a prize for the best pen of five market hogs at the Orono Fair. Six pens were judged after slaughter in Toronto. T Eaton Co contributed 30 dollars plus 15 from the Society totaling 45 to be split among six winners: Milford Sherwin, M H Staples, Carl Billings, Carl Billings, W S Moffat & Sons, and W J Rowland. The Durham Central Agricultural Society thanks T Eaton Co for the support.

Port Hope Adopts 55 Hour Week Schedule

Port Hope merchants approve a 55 hour week plan to be sent to the wartime prices and trade board and local retail merchants association. The schedule sets 8 am to 5 30 pm on Monday Tuesday Thursday and Friday with Wednesday closing at noon and Saturday hours until 9 pm, later reduced to compulsory closing.

Winners In Durham County Foal Club at Orono Fair

The Durham County Foal Club held Achievement Day at Orono Fair with seventeen of nineteen boys exhibiting colts. Percheron and Clydesdale classes were judged separately by Prof. M W Staples. Aggregate scores rewarded top finishers with a prize fund shared by Dominion and Provincial governments and the Fair Board.
