Frost to Open Industrial Conference in Peterborough

New Office At Orono Reforestation
A new one story office building is under construction at the Provincial Reforestation site in Orono replacing the old story and a half building. The old structure has been relocated west of the barns. The new frame building will house the Superintendent and Conservation Officer offices plus general and storage space and should be occupied later this year. The old office will become a lunch and common room for staff.

Orono Telephone Improves System With 100 Pair Cable
Orono Telephone Company begins a project this week to string a 100 pair cable from its switchboard north to Clarke line eight. The line will serve Millson Hill Road and County road west of the village, then continue to Kirby and Clarke, along Highway 115. Completion is expected within two weeks.

By Law Read To Hold Water Vote October 3
Clarke Township Council discussed two readings for a by law to issue debentures for the Millbrook High School and a separate by law to hold a October 31 vote on a full municipal water system for Orono costing 175 000. Trustees urged action on a subdivision water line on Division Street with tenders to follow and possible use of transit pipe to cut costs.

Gloriadale Farm Tops Pasture Improvement Contest
In Durham County during 1966 the Soil and Crop Improvement Association pasture competition drew farmer interest. Gloriadale Farms Port Hope won with 305.2 points, followed by John Bonsma Burketon 253.6 and Edward Foley Bowmanville 244.75. Judges noted significant improvements and prizes will be awarded at the January 1961 annual meeting. The contest rewards pasture management to boost cattle carrying capacity and farm revenue. Factors include cattle numbers, acreage, rotation, harrowing, and clipping as judged elements. The event will be repeated in 1961 with hopes for more entrants.
