Orono Horticulture Forms Junior Group
The Orono Horticultural Society met at Oddfellow's Hall with about fifty members. They formed a Junior Horticultural Society for ages 8 to 16, with meetings the fourth Thursday each month starting October 27 at the Orono Municipal Centre from 7 to 8 pm.
Estella Penfound Dies After Long Illness in Ontario
Miss Estella Penfound of R R Newcastle died October 15 1960 at Oshawa General Hospital following a year long illness. She was active with the United Church Women’s organizations and held life memberships in the Women’s Missionary Society. Surviving are her sister Muriel and four brothers John Roy Clarence and J Allin. Funeral services were held October 18 at Morris Funeral Chapel Bowmanville with interment in Bowmanville Cemetery. Pallbearers were local men including John Penfound and Simon Penfound.

The October Wo mens Association of the Orono United Church met October 13 with 16 members present. President Mrs H Allen led, prayers and hymns noted, and a devotional by Mrs C Wood followed. A hockey banquet catering check was acknowledged, a turkey supper plan priced 1.50 for adults and 25 cents for under 12, and delegates to the W A Presbytery meeting at Ajax on November 19 were named. The November meeting is set for November 10 hosted by Mrs Irwin.

Four members of the Orono Art Class and instructor attended a weekend sketching seminar at Burleigh Falls with fifty six participants from East Central Ontario. Instructors included Mr Bennett and two others. the event, sponsored by the East Central Ontario Arts and Crafts Association, ran Saturday and Sunday amid vivid autumn color.
