Orono Continuation School Field Day took place in perfect weather on Friday September 27 with two teams Whites led by Joyce Tennant and Junior West and Blues led by Betty Bourne and Orville Chatterton. Winners include Pauline Robbins Kay Gemsby Shirley Flintoff Dean West Ross Patton with team Whites scoring 253 to Blues 218.

Crusaders Cavalcade to Feature Women's Day in Oshawa
The Crusaders Cavalcade of the United Church of Canada will be in Oshawa from Oct 26 to 30 with a special Women's Day on Oct 29. Activities start at St Andrew's United Church in the morning and move to King Street United Church for afternoon and evening sessions. Women from St Andrew's host, bringing box lunches and tea, as posters, maps, and displays illuminate the event.

Dr G W Miller Outlines Health Work At Crooked Creek
Dr G W Miller of the Northumberland Durham Health Unit spoke to the combined Home and School Clubs at Crooked Creek School on health trends in Canada. He reviewed eight months of unit work including 523 immunization clinics protecting nearly 4500 people and over 9000 diphtheria toxoid doses.

County Federation Discontinues Film Showings
The Durham County Federation of Agriculture met October 3 at Bethany Hall. They decided not to sponsor film showings for the coming season and set plans for calf vaccination collaboration with the County Agricultural Board. Plans Made For Erection Of Newtonville Monument

Polio Case Reported in Bowmanville Child
One case of poliomyelitis is reported in a 6 year old in Bowmanville with no other school age children in the family. Including this case, eight poliomyelitis cases have been reported in the Northumberland Durham Health Unit area this year. The province’s outbreak is said to be past its peak but isolated cases continue to occur and parents are warned to watch for disease in children.

Polio Case Reported in Manvers Township Health Unit
One poliomyelitis case with no paralysis is reported in Manvers Township Health Unit area. The adult patient fell ill September 22 and was admitted to Riverdale Isolation Hospital in Toronto for investigation and treatment.

The East Durham Swine Club exhibited twenty one pairs of purebred Yorkshire pigs at the Port Hope Fair. Howard Coatham Orono led the top five, with the total 1200 points deciding standings among many exhibitors. Prize money shared by Ontario and Dominion Agriculture departments and Port Hope Society.
