Hope Township Council grudgingly approves the township share of the 1 million dollar vocational wing at Courtice High School. It passes two resolutions: hire an architect for Durham County District High School Board and seek debentures of 365 thousand dollars with a 10 year repayment plan. Councilor Stapleton urges faster repayment and fairness to residents, while debate covers education costs, urban development, and farming land assessments. Fire Averted In Orono Business Section
In Orono early Monday a furnace unit fire at Partners Plumbing and Heating caused about 500 dollars in damage before the Orono Fire Department contained it. The building filled with smoke and flames spread to the south-west corner before crews stopped it. John Forrester and Kelly Lane alerted authorities.

$250,000 Gift From Carl J. Sanders To Trent University
Carl J. Sanders of Toronto donated a quarter million dollars to Trent University in appreciation of community support in Peterborough. President T H B Symons called the gift highly welcome and said the university plans require about $16 million more over four years. Committee Appointed For Winter Carnival Plan
The Orono Chamber of Commerce met with sixteen members to discuss a winter carnival. A committee was formed to study the proposal and report back.
