Third Person Killed At 7th Line Intersection

James Rosseau 27 of 260 Oshawa Blvd north died when the car carrying him as a passenger failed to negotiate the T intersection on the Clarke Darlington line and crashed into a tree. Wallace Rosseau drove the vehicle and survived with injuries. the crash occurred around 9 to 10 pm. This site has claimed multiple Bowmanville area fatalities this year. He was married to Marilyn Lillie Singular and leaves a wife and one son Harvey Daniel.

Work Starts On New Swimming Pool At Orono Park

Construction began Friday on the Orono Park pool with Lloyd Taylor's equipment arriving and the excavation completed Saturday. The tank site replaces the old bowling green as gunite cementing follows wall and bottom steel placement. Dane Rogerson suffered a broken nose after riding into a ten foot hole at the site and was taken to a doctor.

Durham Soil Association Urges Fall Soil Testing

The Durham County Soil and Crop Improvement Association promotes fall soil testing for all farms in Durham County. It placed soil test tubes with farmers to simplify sampling and send results to Ontario Agricultural College for fertilizer recommendations. Farmers should take about one sample per acre and mail fresh samples with complete field information for accurate guidance.

Darlington Farm Barn Fire Kills 13 Cattle and 14 Pigs

An early morning blaze at Leslie Welsh’s farm two miles east of Bowmanville destroyed a barn along with 13 dairy cattle and 14 pigs, including prize calves. Firefighters saved the nearby house after battling heat and dwindling water, with 1300 bales of hay also lost. Police Constable John Bird alerted occupants. Donald Welsh, a 4-H delegate, had just returned from New York.

Supersonic jet over area rattles homes

Tuesday evening residents across Orono Oshawa and Port Hope were startled as a supersonic jet flew overhead breaking the sound barrier. The two loud blasts jarred car doors and blew in cellar windows, with effects felt across a broad region. Officials note planes should avoid residential areas to prevent alarms.

Port Hope Passes On Clarke School Plan With Conditions

Port Hope council will not oppose a Durham County board plan to build a 500 pupil Clarke Township school and add a five room extension to Port Hope high school. A June Counties' Council recommendation could split the district if costs prove favorable. Port Hope’s net cost per pupil is the district's lowest at 175.06, with total 442 per pupil including teacher costs.

To Start Badminton In Orono Monday Meeting

On Monday night at 8 00 o clock at the Orono Community Centre a meeting will organize badminton for the coming year. Anyone interested is asked to attend following the meeting badminton will be played. The Orono club hopes inter club meets this year as last year.

The Woman's Missionary Society will hold a joint anniversary Sunday on November 6 with guest speaker Mrs. Gray of Garden Hill. The Orono United Church group plans a Fall Rally at Maple Grove on October 19 and marks the 75th anniversary in November with Autumn Thank Offering.

Miss Mary Waddell Attends Ottawa Law Conference

Miss Mary E. G. Waddell 82, oldest practicing woman lawyer at the Second Commonwealth and Empire Law Conference in Ottawa, recalls education at University of Toronto Osgoode Hall and teaching math there. She plans few hobbies, attends law and math events, and may attend another conference only if nearby.
