Gladys Aslett was named best actress at the Orono Drama Festival for her role as a kitchen maid in Between the Soup and the Savoury. The Peterborough Players won best play for Summit Conference directed by J. G. Campbell. Attendance grew each night, with overall gate receipts around 325 dollars, but local turnout remained low.

Opening Day Duck Shoot at Darlington Park Draws Crowds
Darlington Park Superintendent O G Irwin reports the opening day duck shoot the best since controlled shooting began two years ago. Twenty six hunters across fifteen blinds bagged 32 ducks including blacks mallards baldpates blue winged teal and green winged teal. Early birds queued before dawn with one car ready by 7 am and three by ? am. Hunting runs Mondays Wednesdays Thursdays Saturdays from opening day to mid month with fifteen blinds at 2.00 per blind for one or two hunters. Permits available.

Orono Fair Awards Over $6000 in Prize Money
The Durham Central Agricultural Society reported prize payouts for the Orono Fair rose to a total exceeding $6000. Exhibits and contests received over $4696 in prizes with horsemen earning about $1600. cattle poultry vegetable and horse classes showed increased participation. The board tentatively approved a waiting room booth project proposed by the Orono Amateur Athletic Association in the arena corner.

Bowmanville council approves a by-law creating a shared ambulance service with Owen Sound operator Donald W. Harvey. The four municipalities Bowmanville Darlington Clarke Township and Newcastle will split costs. Harvey to be paid 1800 annually with 10 per Bowmanville call and 0.50 per mile beyond town limits.
