Record Potato Yields Set in Parry Sound District
Weather hindered many areas but three growers in the Parry Sound 500 Bushel Potato Club broke the Ontario provincial record. Fred Sohn of Magnetewan yielded about 718 bushels per acre, C. H. Chapman of Nipissing 694, and Frank Rick of Trout Creek 693. The club average was 503 for the top ten and 460 for all 21. Chippewa variety produced excellent quality.

Durham team led by Dalton Dorrell wins at Winter Fair
Dalton Dorrell of Nestleton captains the Durham County Junior Farmers' team to the Jeffrey Bull Memorial Trophy at the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto. The group earned 2641 points from 3000 across heavy horses beef cattle dairy cattle sheep and swine judging. Ontario County placed third with 2557 points. Dorrell also won the H Stonehouse Memorial Trophy for top dairy cattle judge and a fair gold medal and cash prize for top overall score 918 of 2000 in the class.

Ellison Found Guilty On Assault Charge In Cobourg Trial
Vernon Ellison of Bowmanville was fined $50 plus costs by Mr Justice Smily after a Cobourg assize jury found him guilty of common assault. The jury also cleared him of attempted murder and intending to cause her own bodily harm, after a 1 hour 25 minute deliberation. The case followed a May 13 scuffle with Lindsay Scott in which a sister fell. Ellison claimed Scott had molested his wife in a Bowmanville theatre.
