November Meeting of WMS and WA Held in Sunday School Room
The November WMS and WA meeting convened in the Sunday School room with Mrs. E. R. Rainey presiding. Hymns and prayers opened the session, followed by devotions led by Mrs. Harold Allen and a scripture reading from St. Matthew. Members discussed keeping teenage Sunday school classes engaged and planned to seek ideas from the Christian Education committee.

The Explorers Group of the Orono United Church canvassed for pennies on Hallowe'en and collected 23.00 from four members present. The funds will be given to the Association. David Williams and David Brent will compete in the District contest in Havelock on November 16.

Speed Limit Increases On 401 And 490 Highways
Highways Minister Allan announced raising the speed limit to 55 mph for cars and buses on the Pickering Newcastle section of No. 401 after a traffic division survey. Trucks stay at 50 mph. Buses on No. 490 match 55 mph. Belleville No. 14 Highway near the city 35 mph for 1,600 feet. West of Belleville on No. 2 Highway new 35 and 40 mph limits replace 30 and 50 mph.

Newcastle Fire Destroys Two-Story Building on Church Street
Early Saturday morning a two story frame building on Church Street in Newcastle burned, destroying the structure and contents valued over five thousand dollars. Firefighters from Newcastle and Bowmanville battled the tinder dry blaze after 6 am, saving adjacent property but failing to save the building behind Bonathan Hardware.

Doris Evelyn Jopling and David Neil Moffat were married at Wesley United Church Lakefield on October 20. The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Accident Insurance Approved for Orono Public School Students
Orono Public School Board, with all members present, approved accident insurance for students and teachers at $1.20 per person annually. A Halloween Masquerade netted 101 dollars for admissions with 92 spent leaving 9. Tolmie reported on Clarke Township pheasant hunting with many birds still around and urged dog use. Eleven leg bands have been returned. Plans were made to organize Fox and Wolf hunts for December amid fire safety cautions for upcoming deer hunting season. Prevent forest fires and protect Ontario wildlife.
