Public School Teachers Hold Final Clarke Township Meeting

The Clarke Township Teachers Association held its last meeting of the year on May 22 in Kendal United Church Sunday School room. President Munro urged members to submit next year’s destinations while Miss Stewart updated field day records. The next year starts September 17 at Starkville School. bills were approved and Kendall W A ladies were thanked.

Salk Vaccine To Arrive This Week

Part of the poliomyelitis vaccine shipment for second doses will reach this week with clinics restarting Monday June 4. The rest is due mid June amid Ottawa testing leading to some discard for low potency. No third doses this spring due to limited supply. Preschool vaccine unavailable.

Snower Hosts Bridal Shower For Bride Jean Williams

Mrs. Vincent Vanstone of Bowmanville received a miscellaneous bridal shower at the home of Mrs. Sid Barraball. About forty guests attended as gifts were presented and an address from Miss Gloria Piggot was read. A lunch followed with social time and gifts including a breakfast set from Vince Vanstone.

Bowmanville Downs Open Season with Win Over Orono

Bowmanville Roses defeated Orono 8 to 3 in seven innings at Park Bowmanville with strong batting by Cowle and Sellers. Crono contributed a double and single for Crono, while West brothers led Orono hitters. Second home game set for tonight at Orono Park against Lindsay.

4-H Homemaking Club Holds Fourth Meeting

The 4-H Homemaking Club held its fourth gathering on May 22 1956 at Mrs Kennedy's home with nine members after a new member Jean Camscadden joined. Elizabeth Reid led the pledge and minutes were approved. Members learned about thank you notes for entertainment and social letters, with home assignments to make sandwiches and record the work. The next roll call prompt will be Why I like to Entertain. The meeting ended at 8 45 PM.

Miss Gwenn Ransberry Honoured With Shower

A group of about thirty relatives and friends gathered at Mrs. W. A. Grady’s home to honor Miss Gwen Ransberry, bride to be, with a miscellaneous shower. The decor was pink and white, gifts furnished the new home, and guests were invited to the bride’s Trousseau Tea after the games and a lunch hosted by Mrs. Keith Wood and Miss Edna Goode.

Orono United Church Holds Sunday School Anniversary

The Orono Sunday School observed its anniversary with a morning service led by Rev. John Kitchen and guest speaker Rev. Dr. G Kilpatrick. Bible study certificates were awarded to senior members by James Rickaby, featuring the Luke story and a choral program led by Mrs. John Kitchen and Miss Ann Best.

Orono Public School Will Add Room in Basement

Orono Public School trustees met Monday to discuss adding a fourth classroom. The board dropped plans for an external building and will reconfigure the school basement to fit the extra room within the existing facility.
