A May 24 gathering at the Berry home in Orono welcomed Mr and Mrs S L Berry to town. Robert Sherwin spoke of their move from a farm to the village Centre Street and hoped they enjoy years of happiness and service. Mrs J Eagleson presented an electric gift and Mr Berry expressed gratitude. The event closed with lunch and a sing song.

Former Orono Couple Celebrates Golden Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. Skilar Wilcox marked 50 years of marriage with a family party hosted by their daughter Mrs. V. Smith in Toronto on Dundas Street East. They have four sons Wilbert William Madison and Norman and nine grandchildren. The couple, natives of Orono, lived in Toronto 25 years with Mr. Wilcox a retired stone mason.

Import and repair part rules eased for farm machinery
Durham County farmers learn restrictions on import and manufacture of repair parts will end July 1. The machinery quota matches 1945 levels. The National Farmers Union of England and Wales is 37 years old with 225000 members. fruit growers pay double the per acre fee. The next Durham Federation meeting is in Orono on June 7 with a picnic on July 19.

Plainfield Man Killed In Bomber Crash
Lt. Robert Moment, 27, of Plainfield New Jersey, a Princeton graduate and Navy Air Corps officer, was among nine men killed when a Navy patrol bomber crashed on a California mountain slope. Moment served in Panama and Iceland and was the son of Rev. John J. Moment. His brother 2nd Lt. John Moment, 23, serves with the 17th Airborne in Germany. He had visited Orono years earlier, possibly named after Orono’s Robert Mo.
