Clarke High School staged a busy track season with a Tri meet win on their field and a strong showing against sixteen district schools. Clarke finished second overall to O’Neil Collegiate Oshawa with 205 points, led by Wendy Partner and Ken McCracken who captured multiple championships.

Clarke High School Expo Trip Sparks Teacher Support
Clarke Management Committee met to hear parents upset over a recent Expo trip. Students were sent back to Clarke High School as a disciplinary measure and missed viewing the World’s Fair in Montreal. Most speakers supported the teachers and chaperons, and board members favored continuing Expo trips, including the June Clarke plan.

Fireworks and Kite Flying Event At Orono Fair Grounds
The Orono Chamber of Commerce promotes a Monday evening May 22 fireworks display at the Orono Fair Grounds with two kite contest divisions for younger and older flyers. Over two hundred dollars in fireworks will be set off, and crafts may be home-made or purchased.

Clarke Township plans road development and school expansion
Clarke Township Council approved petitioning the Minister of Highways to designate the fifth Concession road as a Development Road from Highway 115 near Orono to County Road No 6 at Starkville. They also authorized a two year repayment plan for a Kendal School addition costing 106,600 and approved borrowing 108,700 for the Orono Road program with grants and local funds to be allocated. The meeting covered tenders for road priming and gravel, permits for local residential builds, and civic events including a Centennial Mother’s Day tea at Orono United Church with large attendance and Canadiana displays.
