Dear Ruth Coming To Town By Local Players In Orono

Orono is set to stage the six scene Broadway comedy Dear Ruth during the second week of June. Warren Watt directs the Orono Players in a production by the Orono Athletic Association to raise funds. Marie Evelyn Rosanna Armitage wed Edward Keith West in Cavan United Church on May 12. Water Safety Program Planned To Be Held At Greno Park

The Orono Red Cross met on Friday May 10 at 8 00 p m to finalize plans for a Water Safety Program at Greno Park in cooperation with the Orono Athletic Society It will run the same hours as last year with Mary Armstrong hired as instructor and Jo Ann Rutherford as assistant The group noted the Red Cross Drive funds may be about $100 short of last year’s total

4-H Homemaking Club Meets at Mrs Kennedy’s May 3 1956

The second meeting of the 4-H Homemaking Club was held May 3 1956 at Mrs Kennedy's home. Elizabeth Reid led The Pledge and minutes were read and approved. The group voted to divide any expenses among members and planned a May 15 supper with table setting demonstration.

Children Shine in Orono School of Dancing Variety Show

Young performers from preschool to teens graced the Township Hall stage in Orono for the annual variety show by the Orono School of Dancing. Colorful costumes and blue starry backdrops highlighted thirty five acts as mothers Mrs Rogerson and Mrs Norton coordinated the costumes and planning.

Baseball School Brings Coaches and Players Together

Twenty five enthusiasts from the Village and Port Hope attended a baseball school in Orono Municipal Building. Max Scheff discussed rules and answered questions while Mrs. Dave Appleton instructed minor players on catching hitting and fielding. Demonstrations occurred at the Orono School grounds with support from local clubs and the Department of Education program.

Orono Skating Club elects officers for year ahead

The Orono Figure Skating Club held its annual meeting with fifteen members present. Officers elected include 1st vice Mrs Edgar Middleton 2nd vice Mrs Roy Forrester secretary Mrs Gordon Simpson and treasurer Mrs Robert Taggart. A president remains to be filled. Plans include booth and diner at the Orono Fall Fair and potential professional instructor Adele Myles. Amalgamation with the Orono Athletic Association debated but not pursued. A municipal recreation grant was discussed.

Wing Added To Port Hope Hospital For 300000

Port Hope Hospital will add a new 300000 wing designed by Barnett and Rieder with Gordon A Friesen Associates as consultants. Plans aim for August blueprint submission and year-end final plans with a target bed increase from 45 to 66 to meet health standards. Building committee includes Baxter Moore and local officials.
