Miller said a petition of 50 percent within a five acre area is needed and a three month county council review would lead to incorporation if valid.

Orono High School placed third at the Peterborough Kiwanis Musical Festival with Linden Lea as the main song scoring 83 and an extra 81. Kingston won, Peterboro second, OHS hopes for next year and plans a May 14 Ottawa trip led by editor Marie Lewis.

United Church Mother's Day Service Draws Large Crowd
A crowded United Church welcomed visitors from Holland as Mr and Mrs DeWith and Mr and Mrs Schoenmaker joined, receiving membership cards and Hymnaries. Eight youths including Shirley Wagg and Glory Pigott were received on profession of faith and signed the church register. The choir sang A Mother's Love and Now let all the heavens adore Thee, with a message on the Christian Home. Flowers honored William Cobbledick Lena Chapman and Percy Chapman.

Recreational Program For July At Orono Park
Orono Amateur Athletic Association directors approve a July summer program at Orono Community Memorial Park for four weeks from July 6 to July 31. Sessions run nine to eleven mornings Monday through Friday with Jim Rickaby appointed overseer and volunteers E H Samuel and Donald Staples assisting. The association budgets two hundred dollars for equipment and wages.

Empty bottles warn campers to prevent forest fires
The Ontario Department of Lands and Forests urges woods travellers not to discard empty bottles in woodlands as sun focused glass and even shaving mirrors left on trees have started fires. The Bantam Baseball Club joins the South Durham Minor League with five rival teams, funded by a past equipment purchase and a small entry fee. Counties Hold Special Session To Appoint Assessor
Northumberland and Durham Counties Council held a special session to fill the vacancy caused by Dick Hall’s resignation as counties assessor. Two finalists Garnet Shields of Peterborough and R J Found of Courtice were considered with salaries proposed, and Hall’s failed raise led to his departure. The council discussed a salary scale, debenture financing for high school areas, and road paving needs including a 7 1 2 mile stretch on Hoards Station Road with possible subsidies.
