Trinity United Church Aids Orono Church in Bowmanville

A joint May 7 service with Trinity United Church of Bowmanville encouraged Orono Park Street congregation about rebuilding their church. Dr Slemon presented a 1725 donation to Mr Rolph, bringing Trinity’s aid over two thousand dollars.

Women’s Association Service At Park Street Church

A large congregation attended the Women’s Association service at Park Street Church Town Hall Orono Sunday afternoon. Rev A B Eustace led with Rev S Henderson of Trinity Bowmanville as guest speaker. The hall featured pink snapdragon decor and a social hour followed with refreshments. the collection exceeded sixty dollars.

Ottawa Parliament Sums Up Unemployed Union Visit

In Ottawa the House of Commons faced an unusual street theater by Unemployed Union leaders linked to a figure named Stalin. Speakers in the gallery were escorted out as seven or eight MPs were briefly interrupted. A lighter moment occurred when Jammy Sinclair’s wife and three daughters attended, prompting applause and emotion.

Hydro Change Over To Cause Power Break

The Hydro Commission will switch Orono’s power source this Sunday May Eouth from the old line to the new town line substation. Power will be off from 2 to 4 PM to complete the change over and raise voltage for a steadier primer system and improved appliance use.

Orene Park Prepares for Summer Activities

The park has repaired creek damage and plans busy summer events led by Mr. Dane Found who also runs the concession booth. Committees meet on Old Age Security Public Accounts Railways Canals and Telegraphs as Parliament considers gas pipeline incorporation bills amid opposition and filibuster tactics.

Village Garbage Collection Plan Urged by Trustees

Villagers are urged to cooperate in a new garbage and refuse collection program starting around June first. Homeowners must provide covered metal containers for weekly waste and separate ashes, with wrapping and container cleaning to prevent odors and flies. Further details to follow from the Orono Police Trustee Board.

W A Meeting of Park St United Church Women

The W A of Park Street United Church met in the Masonic Hall on May 9. Mrs Duncan presided. Mrs Billett led a devotional on faith. Reports on activities were encouraging and the choir thanked the W A for catering at the High Park Choir concert banquet. The meeting closed with prayer and Mizpah benediction.

Family Reunion Honors Mr and Mrs J Grunerud in Sask

A large family reunion was held at the Grunerud home in Broderick Saskatchewan for Mr and Mrs Jamies Grunerud nee Muriel Morton. Out of town guests included Ross and family Rosetown Dale Grunerud Milden Marvin and Howard Wadena James Grunerud Terry Saskatoon Ches Larson and Allen Grunerud. Two relatives could not attend Otto Pouce Coupe Alberta and Minerva Cooper Keeler. James Grunerud recently graduated from the University of Saskatchewan and will teach in Minnesota, later joined by his wife visiting her parents in Orono.

Pleasing Program By High Park United Church Choir

The High Park United Church choir of Toronto gave a Friday Town Hall concert with about forty singers and soloists Selma Jetmundson Bialuski Ruth Jenkins James Spark James Watson. Director organist C Roy Grass led a generous program whose proceeds benefited the Orono Choir for gowns. Afterward the Orono Women’s Association hosted a supper for both choirs.

Women from Ontario attend Guelph conference closing session

A busload of women from Orono Bowmanville and Kendal attended the CWF I conference closing session in Guelph with over one thousand participants from rural Ontario. Key speakers urged political participation and public duty, stressing citizenship, leadership and family roles in shaping policy.

Orono Red Cross Campaign Third Highest In Ontario

Orono Red Cross Branch, under Mrs. W. E. Armstrong, voted 400 to the Ontario Division from a 735.42 balance for local work. Funds support cod liver oil for Clarke Township public school children, and swimming and life saving classes next summer. The branch, 3rd in Ontario at 280 percent of goal, was praised by Campaign Director Harley Neff.
