Clarke Township honours returned service personnel banquet

Clarke Township held a May 3 event for armed forces personnel with a banquet at the Armouries and a Town Hall program. About 150 of 200 attendees heard tributes, a Last Post, readings, music, and dances. Recipients received Reynolds pens as tokens, and Captain John Keane spoke on home front support.

Young People's Union Meeting at Park Street United Church

The Young People’s Union of Park Street United Church met on Monday May 6 with Alma Mitchell leading. Activities included hymns, readings, a scripture reading, a poetry reading, a vocal solo by Stella Best, piano by Arlene Boyd, and a closing benediction led by vice-president Myrtle Tamblyn.

North Ward Lining Up Players For Season

The Orono Northward softball team opens practice at Memorial Park this week. Manager Perc Lunn urges all interested boys to attend on time with 16 and under at 6 15 pm and over 16 at 7 15 pm. The north section covers the area north of Park Street.

Sixth Line School Joins Clarke Township Area

Ratepayers at the Sixth Line School on May 7 met in the school house to decide on entering the Clarke Township School Area. Public inspector W H Carlton spoke on benefits, a vote favored joining, the third Clarke Township school to do so, and a by law will be passed at the next council meeting to authorize the change.

Park Street United Church Hosts 127th Anniversary Service

Orone lodge held its annual church service at Park Street United Church on Sunday evening May 5 attended by the local lodge and visiting Brethren from Oshawa Bowmanville Port Hope Cobourg and Pony Pool. The parade formed on Main Street in front of the Lodge room.

Jas T Brown Buys Six Head Cattle At Holstein Sale

James T Brown of Newcastle bought six bred heifers for 1635 at the Holstein herd sale of Hooper Bros in St Marys Ontario on April 29. David R Stevens paid 400 for a yearling daughter of Montvic Commander, the sale’s top price. The 64 head of purebred Holsteins sold brought 29665 total, averaging 463 dollars.
