Nixon elected Ontario Liberal leader after leadership race
Hon Harry C Nixon won on the first ballot as Ontario Liberal leader in Toronto with 418 votes to Roebuck 85 McQuesten 49 and Thompson 22. Nixon previously served as provincial secretary and cabinet member in Hepburn's government. He is Brant's longtime MLA and a 1919 political veteran with a wartime RAF son.

Ontario restaurants and all public eating places will not serve meat on Tuesdays starting May 4, as ordered by the Prices Board. Milk products are exempt, fish and poultry may be served, and exemptions cover nonpublic dining rooms, railway dining cars, and meals for crews, patients, or inmates.

On Saturday May 8 in Orono a Tag Day for the Canadian Institute for the Blind will be held. The event follows a successful prior drive that aided rehabilitated soldiers including Dieppe veterans.
