Outline Cast To Appear On Drone Stage

The Orono Players present The Torch Bearers a 1922 set satire directed by Margot Samuel with a large cast led by Mrs. Pampinelli portrayed by Jean Sheridan and Mrs Ritter played by Roma Glanville. Act 1 dress rehearsals Act 2 back stage play and Act 3 finale promise lively entertainment for theatre lovers.

Local Co op Breakin Hits Orono Area

Thieves broke into the Durham County farmers cooperative north of Orono over the weekend. Entry is believed to have occurred Sunday night or Monday morning. Loot totaled about 100 dollars in small electrical appliances. Police are investigating the break in.

Co op Snooker Playdowns Crown Sharks in Close Final

The second Snooker Tournament at Founds produced a tight finish with Don Mercer and Gord Lowery of the Co op winning as the Snooker Sharks. Lyle Wery and Jim Tamblyn took second. Wests team claimed third after a tiebreak. A separate break in at the Or oo Town Hall prompted police investigation.

Morning Fire Threatens Bush Near Ontario Forestry Station

Early Saturday at about three o clock the Orono Fire Department fought a blaze at a straw stack in the farm's west sector near the pump house. The wind from the east kept the fire from the surrounding bush, though firefighters could not halt the stack fire. A hose line was laid as a precaution while investigators consider a fisherman as a possible cause.

Orono Orphans Banquet Nears With Trophy Presentation

The Orono Orphans Championship Banquet is set for Saturday May 14 at 6 30 PM in Odd Fellows Hall. Guests from the CAHA will attend and OHLA President Mr McMillan will present the OH A Trophy. Tickets are selling fast via Orphans members.

Orono Oddfellows Attend Church Service

The Orono Oddfellows Lodge held an annual Divine Service on Sunday with visiting brethren from the District at St. Saviour's Anglican Church. A fifty strong parade led by the Orono Band, then a service at the War Memorial where Brother Harry Davey laid a wreath. Ed Youngman gave remarks on freedom and remembrance followed by a two minute silence.

Girl Guides Start Reg War Meeting and Service Tests

The Girl Guides opened their reg War meeting with roll call inspection and collection. Guides Judy Wagg Carol Vage Marie Hooey Lynda Pears Anne Gilbank and Lynn Bailey passed their service test. Some planned fall fair splay while others began handicraft with Mrs. Jack Watson aiding cork brooches.

Refugee Year Topic At Orono United Church WMS

The Orono United Church WMS met May 3 in the Sunday School auditorium with 24 ladies present. Miss Barnes and Miss H Waddell spoke on Refugee Year, noting 16 000 000 refugees in Hong Kong and 45 000 000 in other countries, urging donations via church funds and other channels. An invitation was extended for the May 19 meeting with Mrs C B Sissons as guest speaker and a May 10 packing day for relief clothing.

The Oshawa Presbytery Woman's Association annual meeting in Port Perry featured guest speaker Mrs. H. S. Olds of Hamilton. She drew on her long W A leadership experience to urge renewed church spirit and shared aims of the Dominion Council while praising Oshawa's officers and members.

Easter skit presented at Orono United Church auxiliary

The Orono United Church Evening Auxiliary held its monthly meeting with Easter as the theme. Members performed a play about Mary and the resurrection with costumed roles, a piano canter, and choral singing. The group planned a Tulip Tea for May 25 and collected clothing for charity.

Orono Park Board Approves New 30 by 60 Pool Project

The Orono Park Board votes to build a cement tank 30 by 60 feet east of the entrance road on the old bowling green. Estimated total cost 11 000 dollars with 6 000 to be raised locally and grants of about 5 000 dollars. Plans include a ten foot walk around the pool and a surrounding fence. Dressing rooms and showers would be added later. The present pool has been condemned by the Health Department.
