4-H Member Selected for Ontario Saskatchewan Exchange

Gary Jeffery of Bowmanville will represent Ontario on the 2nd inter provincial 4-H Exchange with Saskatchewan from July 13 to 27. The program, coordinated by the Canadian Council on 4-H Clubs, is funded for travel by the Royal Bank of Canada.

Logan Receives Veteran Jubilee Medal at Orono Lodge Banquet

Mr. R FE. Logan of Orono Lodge No 325 was awarded a Veteran Jubilee Medal on Thursday evening. The presentation occurred during a banquet attended by about 150 members, reflecting Logan’s long service in the Masonic Lodge.

Mrs Edyth Thompson Dies in Bracebridge March 12 1964

Mrs Edyth Thompson widow of Edgar Thompson died at her daughter Gladys Colma’s Bracebridge home March 12 1964. She was born in Clarke Township daughter of Solomon and Ruth Hamm. Survived by three children Gladys Allan and Dorothy five grandchildren one sister M Wright Ivy of Bethany and brothers H nest of Orono Harry of Bowmanville. New Crono-Clarke Fire Truck Answers First Call

The Crono-Clarke fire truck answered its first call last Monday at noon for a grass fire at the Crono Dump. The truck carries five hundred gallons of water and had ample supply at the scene to extinguish the grass fire. Residents are urged to use caution when burning grass as fires can quickly get out of control.

Durham Co-operative Honors Charter Directors at Annual Meeting

The Durham Co-operative held its annual meeting in Orono with a turkey dinner catered by Kirby United Church ladies. Local Schools Shine at Kiwanis Music Festival

Eight schools competed in Peterborough as Leskard and Orono Public Schools earned top placements. Orono Glee Club, directed by Miss Allred, won first in two part Chorus, reclaiming last year’s cup. Leskard dominated duet and solo classes with Donna Ball Debbie Green Lynda Thompson and Donald Berry among top finishers.
