Elizabeth Helena Chapman Cain died at home in Orono after a long illness on February 28 1947. She was born April 17 1869 at Kirby Clarke Township and married J C Cain December 29 1908. She leaves a husband a daughter Bertha two sisters and a brother. Funeral held February 26 at Park Street United Church Orono with Rev J S Littlewood officiating. Burial in Orono Cemetery.

Millbrook Man Wins High Honours In Badminton

Grant Henry of Millbrook and Reg Little captured the men doubles title at a Buffalo tournament beating top United States players. Henry and Mrs Roberts reached the finals in the same event. In Toronto at the Ontario Championship at the Carleton Club Henry and Mrs Roberts won the mixed doubles from Dick Birch and Barbara Ince, earning Henry a trip to Vancouver to compete in the Dominion championships.

Literary Meeting Of Year Draws Crowd In February

The second Literary meeting of the year was held on Wednesday evening February 26 under Ruth Ilford’s leadership. A decent crowd attended despite weather. Highlights included solos, duets, a skit, group songs, and a final play The Little Red School House followed by God Save the King and dancing with music by Howard Linton and Bill Found.

The Wartime Prices and Trade Board announced price increases on domestically produced refrigerators ranges and heaters and warm air furnaces. Refrigerator prices rise 10 percent effective February 18 and stoves and furnaces 7.5 to 10 percent on February 20 after full investigation.

June Glanville and Gracie Gamsby headline a bustling Orono Arena skating carnival on March 1. Local Guides performed drills while Brownies, Oshawa skaters, and out of town guests stunned spectators with figure skating, spins, and waltzes. The Wartime Press and Trade Board sanctions a three cent raise in retail prices for red blue and commercial dressed beef effective March 3rd.
