May Increase Sugar Ration In Canada This Year

Buck Killed by Dogs Near Cobourg On Ontario Street

A yearling buck was killed by dogs Wednesday afternoon on Ontario Street near Cobourg. A resident, Eora Houghtailing, heard the bleating and baying, saw the deer bleeding from a throat wound as dogs dragged it. The meat was sent to the Ontario Training School for Girls in Cobourg. Deer sightings are rising in Northumberland and Durham as heavy snow may drive deer south. Wolves are also being shot in the United Counties.

Goodwill Bible Class Forms Evening Auxiliary

On February 20 at Mrs Gordon Wattsons home the Goodwill class became the Evening Auxiliary of the Woman's Missionary Society of Canada. Warrant Issued For Clarke Township Man After Accident

Clarke Township resident faces arrest after a February blizzard collision left C. B. Farnham of Toronto injured when a car struck him as he shoveled snow from a 1947 Studebaker. The driver fled the scene and failed to appear in Bowmanville Police Court, prompting the warrant. Farnham was treated at Port Hope Hospital and later Christie Street Hospital for surgery.

Maple Products Removed From Ration List Feb 17

Wartime Prices and Trade Board announces that effective February 17 all maple products are removed from the ration list of preserves items. No change to validating sugar preserves coupons. Industrial users must obtain written permission from the Sugar Administrator to use maple syrup or maple sugar in manufacture. Maple products had been rationed since March 1948 with coupon values of 6 oz maple butter or 10 oz maple syrup or 0.5 lb maple sugar, later raised to 48 oz syrup or 4 lb sugar.
