Tamblyn Family Picnic Draws Attendees From Near and Far

The Tamblyn Picnic at Waltona Park Newcastle drew Tamblyns from Chicago Rochester and Ontario towns. Activities included baseball and races for youth and a smorgasbord supper followed by elections with officers listed and plans to meet again on the third Saturday in June 1966.

Rain Deluges Orono Area After Drought

Heavy rain hit Orono and surrounding areas ending a month long dry spell that had stressed crops and lawns. Flooding damaged streets with water mains exposed and sidewalks sinking at several sites. Water entered cellars where connections had been moved to the basement, seeping through unsealed basement walls.

Unoccupied Farmhouse Burns In Clarke Township

An unoccupied two storey frame farmhouse owned by Marvin and Kerr burned to ashes late Thursday night in Clarke Township. The cause is unknown and firefighters from Kendal Gr ono responded with an alarm. Barns nearby were spared.

Busy weekend for the Orono Junior Gardeners as they held their second annual Decoration Day Flower Sale. Under Mrs. T. Fairbrother and Mrs. C. Challice the event sold out by noon Saturday with $140 in cash, thanks to fresh stock from area donors and volunteers.

Antioch School to Close After 103 Years Near Orono

The 103 year old Antioch one room school east of Orono will close after this term. Students will move to Orono Public School for 1965 66. The building has seen few improvements though it led in Kendal Park field day and won a 1964 softball title. Marie Yeo won second in the county public speaking contest. Gary Black earned the high score in the meet.
