Orono Chamber of Commerce sponsors a full day of entertainment at Orono Park on Saturday July 1. Events include a Midget O B A game Bow Manville vs Orono at 10 am an all star Newcastle vs Orono softball at 1 30 pm Ontario Championship Girls team from Toronto at 3 pm and a U H E W football show from Peterborough at 6 30 pm plus a large monster bingo at 8 pm with hundreds of prizes admission is 50 cents for adults 25 cents for children.

Take Advantage Of Free X ray In Orono
On Thursday and Friday June 15 and 16 citizens of Orono and nearby areas could obtain a free chest X ray aimed at detecting tuberculosis early. In 1947 about 950 were examined. this year 562 took advantage, with six under 12. Lions Club Newcastle Bowmanville and Ontario Health Department funded the survey through Christmas Seals.

Excavation Marks Start of Park Street Church Project
On Saturday noon June 17 the Park Street Church at Onono began reconstruction with basement excavation. A large bulldozer from Adams Lumber Company, donated and operated by P Newell of Newcastle, completed the work through Saturday and Monday, reducing the expected building cost.

Mrs Elizabeth Tamblyn aged 78 died at her home in St. Orono on May 20 1950 after a heart attack. Born November 26 1871 Kendal Hilcott, she married James C Tamblyn February 22 1893. Funeral June 1 conducted by Rev A F Eustace. interment Orono Cemetery. Survived by four brothers George Saskatoon David St Petersburg James Brandon and Wesley Kendal and sister Florence Brimacombe Orono.
