Clarke Public Schools Field Day Triumph at Kendal

Clarke Township field day held in Kendal with over five hundred children from all public schools. Newcastle Lions Club sponsored medals cups and treats. Orono and Newcastle led team points with Crono securing softball cup and Kendal holding rural softball title. An ice cream cone and coca cola were provided to attendees.

Councils Weigh High School Boundaries in Lengthy Session

Northumberland and Durham Counties Council debated splitting high school areas. East Northumberland would form a single district except Cobourg Road, with two boards meeting the Department of Education for approval. Deputations from Percy Township urged preserving Campbellford High School access.

Newly Weds Honoured With Presentation At Antioch

A May 30 gathering at Antioch School celebrated newlyweds Mr and Mrs Ted Coatham with an address and a presented chair. Everett Harness and Donald Evans gave the gift as Mrs W S Moffat read remarks. Guests enjoyed music, lunch, and dancing before closing with God Save the King.

W A Meeting of Park Street United Church Women

The W A of Park Street United Church met last Tuesday with president Mrs. Duncan presiding. Mrs. Porter led devotionals and read Psalm 63. Duncan reported on the Presbytery meeting at Pickering in April. The July meeting will be a joint picnic with the W M S on July 4 in the park. donations for Winnipeg flood victims are requested.

Ten Thousand Children Attend United Counties Schools

About 9 721 pupils across Durham and Northumberland Counties are in public and high schools this year, with 5 444 in Northumberland and 4 277 in Durham. Northumberland reports 3 478 in public and 799 in secondary schools, while 899 teenagers attend high schools in the county. Cobourg’s St Michael’s Separate School has 318 of 4 545 youngsters enrolled. Government figures released show overall near ten thousand pupils in the two counties.

Mrs Elizabeth Tamblyn of Orono Dies at 78

Elizabeth Tamblyn, born November 26 1871 in Kendal, died May 30 1950 at her Orono home after a heart attack. She married James G Tamblyn on February 22 1893. he predeceased her. Survived by four brothers and a sister, funeral June 1 led by Rev A E Eustace with interment at Orono cemetery.
