Crone Girl Guides Brownies and Leaders held a combined end of season meeting Friday at 7 30 PM with mothers and Local Association invited. Enrollment included Lynn McMackin Carol Gilbank Sharon Simpson Cherryl Cooper Barbara Keast. Brownie to Guide promotions awarded wings. Honors earned include Golden Bar First and Second Class Badges and multiple Service Stars. Guests from local districts attended and a skit on Guiding history and camp life concluded the evening.

Boat Storage to Open in Village This Summer
Mr. Ernest Dent will operate a new boat storage in the Waddell building at Main and Mill streets. The facility, ready later this summer, will serve the local area and boat owners from Oshawa Toronto and nearby points. The building previously housed E Neilson’s wood shop and the meeting ended with light refreshments and Guide Jubilee celebration pictures of Doe Lake Camp.

Orono AAU Plans New Crafts For Summer Program
Orono Amateur Athletic Association hosts registration for the July Summer Recreational Program this Thursday from 7 to 8 PM at the Orono Municipal Building. Mrs. Marvin Lunn leads. four new crafts including Foam Rubber work Metalcraft and Plastic-coat moulding join standard activities and bowling may be added for seniors. Fee is $3 per child or $5 per family.

Noted Adjudicator Comes To Vrono Drama Festival
The Orono Drama Festival Committee will honor James Dean of Toronto as adjudicator again this year. Dean, a longtime drama figure, has managed Hart House Players, co founded the Provincial Dramatics Library, and produced at major Toronto venues for diverse groups. He directed theatre courses across Ontario and held leadership roles in regional arts organizations. Dean won the Canadian Drama Award in 1954.

Colts Derby Set At Orono Racecourse This Saturday
Orono Chamber of Commerce hosts the second annual Colt Derby at Orono racetrack on Saturday June 18 with twenty three colts entered for trophy and purse. Local turnout hoped to top last year’s crowd of near a thousand as Meadowview Farms entries join horses from Oshawa Lindsay and Peterborough in a day of races with the Orono Band providing music and games starting at 1:00.

Orono Wins Urban Trophy At Annual Field Day
Orono School topped the urban division at the Clarke Township Public School Field Day held at Walton Park Newcastle drawing about seven hundred participants. No. 9 won the 2 room division and Clarke Union took the 1 room division with Clarke Union and Orono earning multiple event trophies. Orono girls led with four individual trophies as winners Lyn da Tyrrell Peggy Hancock and Caroline Johnston along with Terry Graham and Bob Best among boys.

Orono Horticultural Society Leads Notable Picnic Tour
About 54 members of the Orono Horticultural Society joined regional societies on a June 11 outing. The day included tours of Presqu’ile Park and Iris Garden, a lunch at Smithfield United Church, and a business session naming Mrs. Jean Long director. An invitation to the 1961 Peterborough picnic was accepted.
