Dedicate Memorial At Orono Cemeter y Oddfellows and Rebekah Lodge

The Orono Oddfellows Lodge and Heather Rebekah Lodge dedicated a memorial stone at Orono Cemetery last Sunday. The Lang Memorial Chapel service featured Bro Gordon Watson as chair, scripture readings by Bro Len Pears, prayers by Rev Basil Long, a vocal trio, and remarks by Grand Lodge official Glenn Wannamaker on the history and impact of Oddfellowship.

Orono Harness Wins Dominate Night at Morrow Park

At Morrow Park Peterborough Orono Har ness horsemen swept ten races with four first place finishes. Junior West led with three wins driving Rob Ron Sassy Golden Elgin W and Thelgiers Jack Reid's Thelgiers, plus a second and a fifth. Gerald Robinson won with King of Diamonds, while Jack Williams with Happy Mae and Keith West on Minor B placed seconds. The event concluded with lodge remembrances and a memorial dedication at the cemetery led by Rev Basil Long.

Orono Tennis Court Gets New Surface

Work began this week on resurfacing the Orono Park tennis court after years of unplayable condition. The Orono Tennis Club led the effort with Park Board support, aiming to recoup costs via future memberships. Barber Construction Company of Toronto handles the project, with stone fill, new posts, and lines to be painted.

Band To Play At Oshawa Shell

Orono Junior Band invited to perform at Memorial Park Oshawa from the McLaughlin Band Shell. Oshawa accepts. local youths will play Wednesday evening June 28. City covers all trip expenses including bus transportation.

Big Showing Of Model A s At Orono Park Sunday

The American Antique Auto Association Ontario Region held a Model A meet at Orono Park last Sunday afternoon. Forty two Model A s registered with ten other antique cars on display. Cars came from Trenton to Toronto and were judged in various categories. Activities included a shoe scramble towing contest and driver contests. Mr Boyd Wood of Orono directed the event. Mrs Lawrence Sherwin won best costume for the Model A era. Miss Nicks of Bowmanville won best child s costume. Wayne Bailey of Orono won a portable television prize.

Clarke Township Approves Kendal School Additions

At a Clarke Township Council meeting a resolution approved adding two classrooms and a general room with stage to Kendal Public School with an estimated cost of 106600 dollars. Of this, 66000 dollars comes from current funds in 1967 and the remainder plus interest will be repaid via debentures over a one year term.
