The Orone Horticultural Society holds its next meeting at Mr. J D Brown's home on Friday evening June 22 at 8 00 o'clock. County Warden C R Carveth will show a set of pictures. Members are urged to attend as the pictures are worth seeing. Lunch will be served at the close of the meeting.
Doris Lanyon daughter of William and Mrs Williams of Sennon Cornwall married Lieut W M Ransberry RCA of Toronto son of Mr and Mrs J E Ransberry of Orono The bride wore a rust colored travelling costume with dark brown accessories Attendants Mrs Richard Sampson of Mousehole Cornwall Groomsman Cmr Thomas Lewis RGEME of Orono A reception was held at Treeve Sennen The couple will reside in Toronto.
A Friday evening game at Orono Community Memorial Park starts about 6 30 p.m. A General Motors Service Department team will face a picked Orono team of veteran players. The event invites all to watch, with no admission fee and a chance to see old timers base running.
Mr W H Brown and Mr Carlson of Nicholls Chemical Company Toronto visited the Brown home Wednesday. Wilfred Froste, wireless operator, arrived home after third torpedoing voyage, 47 days from Murmansk to Canada. on Norwegian ship he will have one month leave.
The Eastern Section Oshawa Presbytery met in Orono Memorial Community Park on Wednesday June 13 for their annual picnic. Sixty five sat to supper after competitive sports for the Shield. The event closed with camp fire songs and a worship service led by Miss Glenna Wilson and presbytery executives.
A series of social notes from Orono and adjacent areas records visits to relatives and friends in Oshawa Peterborough Bowmanville and Kingston. Notable items include Mrs. John Awde of Newcastle visiting Orono, Miss Mary Thompson from Toronto staying with Miss M. L. French, and the Hughson family milestone with Mr. J. Hughson turning 98.
Mrs Fred Lycett hosted the Good-Will Bible Class as about thirty members gathered for a profitable June meeting. Mrs McLaren led devotion and business, while Mrs W W Sherwin directed a study on venturing together in Christian living in the community. Short papers on the woman’s place in local work followed. The President awarded Hymnary to Mrs Victor Hancock, who moves to Newcastle, and the gathering ended with a social period.
The June meeting led by President Mrs. M. H. Staples discussed the Crusade for Christ and His Kingdom. Members heard reports on increasing Mission Monthly subscriptions and planned a June 22 tea and program plus future anniversaries and park picnic in July.
Mr and Mrs Thos Cowan attended Millbrook Fair on Wednesday. The town enjoys bright weather as crops grow. The National Film Board under Durham Federation of Agriculture will show pictures in Orono Town Hall on Thursday June 14 at 2 30 pm for children and 8 30 pm for adults. The show is free.
