Durham Federation of Agriculture Plans Health Action and Film Board Shows
The Durham Federation of Agriculture met June 7 in Orono with strong turnout. They planned health surveys focusing on defective vision teeth and throat issues and arranged a follow up, while National Film Board demonstrations for schools grow stronger. The group organized June school showings, War Assets matierial access, and a Forum meeting at Orons Hall with Wesley Neelands as speaker. The annual July picnic at Orone Park featured W H Porter as speaker. additional budget items and projects were noted for next time.

Funeral services for Zolman Johns Clark were held at Rigdon Funeral Home and Blue Den cemetery near Scio. Born May 5 1864 at Orono Ontario he married Henrietta Dunsford in 1891 and Norah W. Lewis in 1929. Surviving: wife two daughters Lula Bond Oda Morrison two sons Glenn Clark Arthur one sister Hettie Smith and thirteen grandchildren.

G M Clemens spoke on Canada Britain South America markets. Roy Ormiston led judging with Ladies Juniors and Men sections. a full sports program closed the day.

Clarke Township pupils held Field Day in Orono on June 4 1945 with Finch school represented. Awards were given for Running High Jump Softball Throw 50 Yard Dash and Shuttle Relay for boys and girls, with winners including Ronnie West Ruth Garrod and Kay McKenna. Afternoon ball games featured Lakeshore Browns versus Clarke Union Antioch Leskard and Newtonville versus Ken.

Clarke Township Council Hears Budget and Roads Resolutions
The Clarke Township Council met June 5 1945 and passed resolutions including forming a Court of Revision accepting revised assessment roll renewing road insurance with Lloyds of London instructing the clerk to report permanent employees to Ottawa continuing C F Awde as tax collector and creating a Township School Area with Darlington. Bills were approved for various services and a adjournment set for July 3 1945. The council noted limited appeals and listed scores of local games Kirby 10 4 and Crono 5 0 over Newcastle.

In Durham County the winner is Charlie Stephenson Mayor of Port Hope, defeating W F Rickard by 447 votes. Cartwright Manvers and Cavan townships contributed 713 vote majority for Stephenson, with former MP Rickard having held a two term seat in the prior term.

Hampton Boy Wins Showmanship Prize at Brampton
Lloyd Ayre of Hampton won first prize in the R. M. Holtby Showmanship Memorial Contest held before the National Holstein Sale at Brampton on May 30. 71 entrants under 21 competed. Geo Jackson of Downsview was second and Graham Wilson of Alliston third. Judging panel included C. D. Graam and L. E H. O'Neill with two others. Prizes were presented by Ontario Agriculture Minister Thomas L. Kennedy. The sale saw Milton Tamblyn of Orono auction two animals to HE R. Stephens and John J. Murphy for 875 and 625 dollars respectively. another yearling to Murphy brought 300 dollars.
