Cobourg climbed from behind to defeat Orono 6 to 4 at Orono Park on a seventh inning rally. Key plays featured Peter Maartense scoring on a wild pitch, Don Roughley and Wayne Bailey contributing hits, and Malcolm McKenzie posting two hits with two walks for Orono.

Brownies Hold First Revel At The Orono Park

About 150 Brownies Rangers and leaders attended the first divisional revel at Orono Park on Saturday. The event featured nature games nature walks songs stunts and an Indian Pageant theme with a totem pole tepees and participants in Indian headdresses.

Clarke Township Accepts Debenture Bid for Two Public Schools

Clarke Township Council met to accept a 75 000 debenture issue for two new public schools with Bond Corporation Ltd providing the funds at 6 percent for twenty years. Tenders for crushed gravel were awarded to R A Blyth Co at 0 65 per ton. Beaverdale Construction won the machinery bid. A Bowmanville Hospital expansion faced debate with calls for public input.

New Students Expected for Orono High Grade 9

Principal W. W. Watt estimates forty nine new Grade 9 students will enroll at Orono High School this September, with current Grade 9s possibly promoted after June exams. Watt and new principal E. G. Witherspoon visited twelve area elementary schools to draft September timetables and map bus routes. They spoke to students about study subjects and co curricular activities awaiting in high school.

Rebekahs Close Term With Pet Lack In Ontario Lodge

Heather Rebekah Lodge held its June meeting with good attendance and a memorial service for deceased members. Officers absent, districts agenda set for Bowmanville June 22, and Decoration Sunday planned. A Fall Fair cash prize and a fall Bazaar were approved as plans move forward. The group prepared wool knitting and a June 29 pot luck picnic with Hi Teens guests.

Miss Marilyn Cobbledick Crowned Miss Orono 1959

The Orono Hi-Teens crowned Marilyn Cobbledick Miss Orono 1959 after a Friday night finals event judged by Lota Dempsey. Patsy Reid and Roma Glanville named two Princesses. Donald Staples of the Orono Chamber of Commerce presented Cobbledick a $25 prize. a district Horticultural Society picnic drew 187 delegates at Fenelon Falls with 50 Orono attendees including tours, a chicken dinner, and a boat ride.

Orono And Lockharts Champs At Field Day

Young athletes competed in Clarke Township Public School Field Day at Jackson Memorial Park Kendal under a hot sun. Lockharts won the rural division, Crone led Newcastle in the urban division, and two records were set including Linda Hughes of Orono in the girls high jump and John Glenney of Lockhart's in the boys broad jump.
