Post Office Moves to New Public Building in Orena

The Post Office will move to the new Public Building in Orena on Saturday June 3 1967. It will operate at the old location until 12:00 noon that day to allow patrons to pick up mail. General Delivery patrons begin picking up mail at the New Federal Building on June 5 1967. Lock Box keys must be exchanged in the new building after the move.

Excellent Floral Display At Ozone Flower Show

An excellent display greeted attendees at the Hort icultural Spring Flower Show on May 25 in the Main Hall of the United Church. Members of the Senior Citizens joined a brief business period led by President Challice. Mrs. Van Nest judged classes. Mrs. Couvier read minutes and filled the secretary vacancy. Delegates to the June Horticultural Convention at the University of Guelph included Challice, Couvier, and Chapman. A bus for June 22 was chartered. Rosemary Killeen and Rosemary Chapman entertained with piano duets and songs, followed by slides by R. Chapman. Prizes in roses, tulips, lilies, daffodils, African violets, and house plants were awarded. Special thanks to exhibitors and prize donors. Sandwiches, cookies, and tea closed the event.

Centennial Concert at Clarke High School Auditorium

Public School presented a memorable evening of music by pupils from several grades and glee clubs. The program included Land of Silver Birch, Teddy Bears Picnic, Sing a Song of June, Sur le Pont d Avignon, and Canada Our Emblem among others. Mrs. Wonnacott received roses for her work, with Mr. Moffat hosting and thanking teachers for the success.

Clarke Township Teachers held their monthly meeting at Leskard School with hostesses M. Elliot E. Allin and J. Ard. President K. Lowery led the opening prayer. D. Moffat outlined the Ball Game Schedule and Tabloid Sports Day on June 15 at Kendal.

Orono Dentist Appointed Dental Staff Consultant

At Memorial Hospital a new Orono dentist, Dr. Peter I. Maartense, was named a Dental Staff Consultant by the Board of Directors on the Medical Advisory and Credentials Committee recommendations. The move was led by Dr. Keith W. Slemon and Glenholme Hughes.

Newcastle Golf Course Set to Open by June Weekend

The new 18 hole par 70 Newcastle Golf Course near Newcastle Ontario is owned by Bob Simpson his wife and their son Tom. Located one mile east and half mile north of Newcastle the family venture promises fast greens ponds streams and traps with a new clubhouse, aiming as one of Ontario’s best.

Backward Spring Weather Dampens Orono Gardener Show

The Orono Junior Gardener's Spring Flower Show saw 16 children present a 42-entry display despite cool conditions. Ten novices showed promise in four arrangement classes and the Bottle Garden competition, with entries eligible for the Ontario Horticultural Association event at Guelph University on June 22. Prize roses were awarded to Yvonne Schoenmaker and Donna Challice for all-class entries. Janet Lovekin received a gift rose. Seeds of Centennial Cosmos were distributed by the Canadian Seed Trade Association. Plans announced for a July 5 bus trip and picnic including a visit to Batterwood House, former Governor-General Vincent Massey's garden, near Port Hope. An annual sale of arranged flower baskets for Decoration Day is set for June 24 at 2:30 p.m. at C. Challice's.

Newtonville Church 100th Anniversary Celebration

Newtonville United Church in Ontario marks its centennial with a Sunday service at 2 30 p m featuring music. Former community members are invited to return and assist. A capacity congregation is expected and the Crone Junior Band will perform outside after the service.

Orono Hydro Debenture Move For Work Program

Orono Hydro Commission approved joining the Ontario Hydro Electrical Modernization Plan with consumer financing and reserved right to opt out. A budget of 25,000 was set for 1967 and 1968 for capital works, with 22,400 to fund the Orono distributing system and the remainder to be raised by a debenture.

The Orono Chamber of Commerce hosts a Sunday Apple Blossom tour with apple orchard views, educational slides at Orono Tree Nursery, a Mosport track drive, and Ganaraska Forest travels.
