Twilight meeting at Cedardale Stock Farm draws Holstein crowd

About 250 Holstein breeders from Durham and neighboring counties gathered at I J Tamblyn’s Cedardale Farm for a Twilight meeting hosted by the Durham County Holstein Club. President Marlin of the National Holstein Association spoke on Canada’s dairy heritage and Holstein’s global role, with prizes awarded in judging contests and performances by local musical groups.

Penwarden Widow Was Active In Uxbridge Area

Mrs Isabella Jane Penwarden 87, widow of Charles W Penwarden, died after a three month illness at her Orono home. Born in Uxbridge Ontario, she married in Enniskillen in 1887, farmed near Leskard, later lived in Orono. Survived by three daughters Mabel Hazel Stella and one son William James. Funeral at Barlow Funeral Home Orono with Rev John Kitchen. Interment Orono Cemetery.

Orono and Newcastle Girls Tie Series In Softball Duel

Orono and Newcastle split their semi final series to two games apiece with Friday’s decisive meeting in Newcastle to crown the series winner. Newcastle surged 11 to 10 in Newcastle while Orono had a 17 to 8 win in Orono, and Crono, D Forrester, G Cooper, J Cooper, J Ransberry, D Brunt and Joan Ransberry emerge as key players as the teams chase the league title last held in 1948.

Oddfellows salvage drive nets $16.35 for hall fund

The Oddfellows thank the community for cooperation in a salvage collection on July 15, yielding 5,450 pounds at six dollars per ton, netting $16.35 for the I.C.C.F. Hall Building Fund with thanks to truckers and helpers.

New Picture Book Bible Set for September Release

A new picture book Bible titled The Jubilee Youth Bible will be published by the British and Foreign Bible Society with 500 illustrations and route maps. It aims to bring the story to life for young readers and commemorates the Society’s 150th anniversary. Copies have been given to Prince Charles and Princess Anne.
