Orono Girls Capture Semi Final. Reach Clarke-Darlington Finals

Orono Girls defeat Newcastle four to three to clinch the Clarke-Darlington League semi final and advance to meet Newtonville in the finals. The series opens Monday at Orono with Newtonville hosting Wednesday and games to be played Mondays in Orono and Wednesdays in Newtonville.

Orono Leads Newcastle 3 0 In Playdowns After Tuesday Game

The Orono baseball team holds a 3 to 0 lead over Newcastle in a seven game series after a muddy, low scoring Tuesday game with twelve hits. Orono scored in multiple innings led by Mabee and D West, while Newcastle's Knight and Walton produced several singles and steals. The fourth game is set for Newcastle Thursday evening.

Crone Police Trustees Plan Sidewalk Review

The Crone Police Trustees met for their regular session to review village sidewalks and consider new construction. The Board of Transport Commissioners granted Trans-Canada Pipe Lines Ltd permission to build a 30 million dollar 2200 mile natural gas line from Alberta to the east. The project aims to start next spring with completion expected by late 1956 and includes financing arrangements to be finalized.

Clarke Township discusses fire protection and road funding

Clarke Township Council meeting notes a petition for fire protection from twelve residents to Orono Village, a vision issue at 5th concession corner, and a CN Railway bill of 939.66 to be settled. The council approves insurance estimates, enforces building setback rules, approves a diesel truck purchase, and sets bids for Payne's and Reid's bridges. Provincial and municipal grants are itemized with a total 68 599.10 in provincial aid and 127 103.17 in levies. Next meeting September 7.
