At the Orono Trustees meeting the board approved locating washrooms on the east balcony and southeast upstairs corner of the Municipal Building. They will tile the space and secure water from Mr Dent, with monthly rates preferred to wells. Prices for rooms and fixtures will be sought for next meeting.

Miss Margaret Fintoff Honoured With Shower
Miss Margaret Fintoff is honoured with a July shower hosted by the Evening Auxiliary at the Lake Scugog cottage of Mr and Mrs Milton Morris. About twenty five members attended from the Town Hall area as they enjoyed supper boat rides games and a walk around the lake with thanks offered to Dora Ross for hosting and a hope to meet again next year.

Miss Margaret Flittoff of Oshawa received a miscellaneous shower last Friday evening at Mrs. Wm Grady's home in Lake Scugog attended by about thirty five friends and relatives. A dozen school chums traveled from Toronto Montreal Port Hope and Bowmanville for best wishes and a coronet of roses greeted the bride to be. After contests a lunch was served by hostesses Mrs Wm Grady Mrs Donald Staples and Mrs Ri Mee Mullen. The evening ended with happy reminiscences.

Six Fire Departments Test Relay Pumping Near Orono
Six fire departments including Newcastle Port Hope Cobourg Bewdley Peterborough and Orono joined a relay pumping drill in Orono testing half mile runs at prescribed pressures. The exercise showed two pumps could deliver water a half mile to the nozzle though hose failures slowed progress. Afterward Ontario Fire Marshals Office officials discussed creating three fire areas covering Orono Kendal and Newcastle with possible equipment sharing and protection plans.

The Ontario Department of Highways studies extending the 55 mph limit from No. 400 to No. 401 east of Highland Creek. Officials note positive driver reaction to the 55 mph trial and trucks remain capped at 50 mph. A related review may raise the Queen Elizabeth Way limit, possibly to 85 mph, with gradual reductions to 45 mph near lower limits. Proposals include allowing passing on either side on four lane highways and appointing Col. R. H. Paterson to head Millbrook reform school.

Col Paterson former Burwash assistant superintendent was appointed governor of the Don after an inquiry by the Department following the Boyd gang escape at Millbrook. Bantam Play Offs Stir Orono and Courtice Interest
The Orono and Courtice Bantam Baseball teams contest a two game series to reach the Ontario Baseball finals. Courtice led the first game in Courtice before darkness halted play, prompting a protest over a Courtice coach umpire. Orono won the second game in Orono 17 to 14 with Kenny Kennedy pitching poorly early before Donnie Lycett finished. Officials will rule on the protest before further dates are set, possibly next week.
