Orono to Set Water Rates Under Municipal Plan
Orono Water Trustees approved a frontage based charge for the new water system after a meeting with the Ontario Water Resources Commission. A 66 foot maximum frontage will determine charges with 42 cents per frontage foot plus a 4 mill tax and a flat water use fee of 30 dollars for residential and 45 dollars for commercial. The plan raises 17 thousand dollars annually to retire debt and fund operation. A sample 66 foot frontage with a two thousand dollar assessment would total 65.72 dollars if connected, and 35.72 for non connected properties.
