Millbrook Girls Achievement Day Planned With Activities

Durham County announces Millbrook will host Girls Achievement Day on Friday July 23 from 9 30 a m to 4 p m in the town hall. The program includes registration judging classes lunch exhibits demonstrations and certificates with opportunities for members to exhibit records essays on salads for health or tea biscuits and plan seasonal menus. A fish report notes Ontario deposited 2000 brown trout near Orono and trout prizes hinge on sizes unless new fish arrive.

Wedding Unites Elva Irene Buchanan and Herbert J Hady

A quiet wedding was held at St James Anglican Church Gravenhurst uniting Elva Irene Buchanan and Herbert J Hady at 12 30 on Saturday July 3. Archdeacon Lindsell officiated with Elva escorted by her brother Alex Buchanan. The couple plan a month long honeymoon at a Lake Muskoka cottage.

The Durham County test of record production shows Cedar Dale Rag Apple Prim from Cedar Dale Stock Farms Orono leading with 15 556 pounds of milk and 509 pounds butterfat in 305 days. Other top cows include Lula Tortilla Burke 13 473 pounds milk 478 pounds butterfat from J H Jose Sons Newcastle and Alice Raynerd Alcartra Neil Mutton Bowmanville with 13 541 pounds milk and 467 pounds butterfat. All records achieved with twice daily milking.

Edward Morton Dies At Orono After Short Illness

Edward Morton longtime Orono resident born May 1861 on Clarke farm died July 10 after a brief illness. He and his late wife were noted for their open home and wise counsel. A Loyal Orange Lodge member for 65 years he was a St Savionr s Anglican Church regular. Funeral July 12 at St Savionr s with Rev. Dewdney officiating. pallbearers were six grandsons and family members. He leaves a sister Mrs Prudence Morgan a daughter Mrs John Morris and two sons George and Albert plus eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

July W C T U Meeting Discusses Manitoba Temperance

The July meeting of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union gathered July 20 at Mrs. W. H. Riowe's home with President Mrs. H. Walsh presiding. Stella Best led scripture and comments, prayers by Mrs. Walsh, and Joyce Sutton played a piano solo. Mrs. Popham of Winnipeg spoke on temperance in Manitoba noting no women’s beverage rooms there. Mrs. Mellor led a law enforcement discussion. lunch followed.

Rationing Time Table for Coffee Tea Sugar Butter Meats

Rationing notice lists coupons 1 to 12 for coffee tea and sugar with validity dates and quantities. Coupon 11 and 12 pertain to sugar and run July 22. Canning sugar coupons marked June and July become valid. Additional coupons 16 to 19, 20 and 21, and pairs 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 set expiry dates through late August. Each coupon or pair covers specified quantities of butter or meat.
