Park Board Appeals to Public for 12500 to Build New Pool

Orono Park Board seeks community funding to raise 12500 for a gunite cement pool on a stage construction plan. Board has 4500 already invested and 8000 still needed from public subscriptions. $3000 expected from provincial grants. A contract with Partner Plumbing and Heating for a 30x70 pool was approved, pending final terms tonight. donations welcomed with public receipts.

Port Hope Welcomes New Law Firm Honey and Brooks

The Port Hope legal field gains one more practitioner with the formation of Honey and Brooks. W Grant Brooks, formerly of Darlington Township, joins Port Hope lawyer Russell C. Honey. Honey has served Port Hope since 1949 and as town solicitor since 1950. Brooks is the son of the late Samuel W. Brooks of Darlington Township and Mrs. Brooks. He studied at Providence Public School, Bowmanville High, University of Toronto BA 1956, Osgoode Hall and was called to the bar on June 22, 1960. The couple plans to reside in Port Hope.

Bride-To-Be Nancy King Honored With Showers

Nancy King bride-to-be, daughter of Mr and Mrs W L King, was honored with a miscellaneous shower Tuesday evening in the Odd Fellows hall. About eighty friends attended as gifts in a decorated wheelbarrow were added to tables with flowers and candles. Hostesses served lunch. prior showers were hosted by local groups and friends.

Don Welsh Chosen to Represent Durham 4-H at Provincial Leadership Week

Donald Welsh of Bowmanville R R 4 has been selected to represent Durham County at the Provincial 4-H Leadership Week to be held July 13 to 22 at the Ontario Agricultural College. One youth from each county attends to develop leadership and citizenship as part of the 4-H program.

Chamber Of Commerce Honors Orono Students At Dinner

Fifteen members of the Orono Chamber met at the Orono Restaurant for their monthly dinner. President Duvall announced the next meeting would include the Honour Students of Orono High School and a parent to honor those who earned honours. Twelve students were acknowledged. A committee led by Cotter Tamblyn and Gilbart will arrange a memento. The Derby earned $500 for the Chamber, with $875 in bank. The Sign is ready for pickup. The Swimming Tank Committee, including Found Lowery Lycett and Duvall, discussed loan repayment plans contingent on Clarke Township backing. Plans for the Change House and Park Board loan approval were also noted.

Ford Touring Car Tour Covers 300 Miles Across Ontario

Antique car owner Mr. Ken Adams drives a 1913 Touring Ford from London to Brighton with stops in Guelph Peterborough and Port Hope. The 300 mile noncompetitive tour averages about 25 miles per hour and includes a banquet in Port Hope and overnight rests in Guelph Peterborough and Port Hope.

Orono Street Fair plans talent show and carnival

Orono Chamber Carnival officials announced extensive entertainment for August including TV artists led by George Wade and an expanded Main Street dancing area. Notable acts include Vince Ford Seppo Leive Mary Mae Demers and a Ferris wheel addition with free admission for children. Out of town guests traveled from Portland Maine Moncton Saint John and Saint Stephens.
