Ontario Wheat Producers Urge Store and Hold Marketing

Ontario Wheat Producers Association urged farmers to store and hold off on marketing most of this year’s crop after harvest and market at regular intervals. Chairman B I Jennett said selling heavily after harvest slumps prices, and recommended moisture testing before combining and delivery to ensure low moisture content.

Joint Meeting Enjoyed By Ladies Of Community

On July 8 a joint meeting and picnic were held in the park by the Afternoon Auxiliary of the Women’s Missionary Society and the Woman’s Association. About thirty-five ladies attended. Supplies for Presbyterian relief were sent to Toronto and nine cartons of used clothing for overseas relief were shipped. The August meeting was withdrawn and September’s will be led by Group two under Mrs. Drummond with her assistants. The worship focused on praise to God and nature, with psalms of David guiding thoughts. The service closed with a story by Mrs. Tamblyn and prayer by Mrs. Logan. Spraying Mustard Proves Effective in Weed Control Demo

A Durham Crop Improvement Association weed spraying demo on Gordon Kellogg and Son farm in Port Hope showcased a tractor mounted sprayer destroying wild mustard and broadleaf weeds on nine acres. The spray, costing under a dollar per acre plus labor, reduced need for hoeing and could clean a mustard field in years. a nearby unsprayed strip displayed the contrast. Impression Of Music Festival By Waterloo Music Society 1952

The 20th Annual Music Festival in Waterloo Park on June 28 1952 drew bands from Kamloops B C and 65 majorettes from Port Clinton Ohio along with 41 bands in a parade and drills. Miss Jacqueline Lougheed and Freddie Mills highlighted solos as 20 000 fans attended the 1951 event, with fireworks closing the evening.

Milfred E Sherwin 52 dies after illness at Toronto General

Milfred E Sherwin aged 52 died July 8 1952 at Toronto General Hospital after a lengthy illness. He lived near Orono Ontario born Fenella Haldimand born Oct 29 1899 married Edith Cain June 21 1933. Funeral July 6 conducted by Rev John Kitchen burial in Orono cemetery. Survived by wife two children Anna Marie and Laurence, brother Dr Wilfred Sherwin and sister Florence Cole. numerous relatives attended from multiple Ontario communities.

Osborne 25th wedding anniversary celebrated in Newcastle

About 80 relatives and friends gathered at Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Russell Osborne home in Newcastle to honor Mr. and Mrs. Orville XK. Osborne on their twenty fifth anniversary. Speeches, gifts of silver, and a lace cloth marked the celebration.

Orono Ball Club Edges Port Hope Pelicans In Extra Innings

The Orono Baseball Club defeated the Port Hope Pelicans 2 to 1 in eight innings after a 1 1 tie through five. Raye West pitched Crone allowing five hits with twelve strikeouts. West Jones and Cornish form a strong local staff as Orono eyes cup honours later this summer. Camborne visit Thursday. Lindsay squad to play Wednesday at Memorial Park.
