The Orono Cemetery Lot Owners held an annual meeting despite bad roads. Directors reported 1941 expenses exceeded receipts by $34.01 and proposed July 1 1942 price increases for Perpetual Care to $50 for a 6 grave plot and $10 per single grave, with existing $35 rate to be phased out.
The Orono Hydro Commission met Friday January 16 and ordered payments to Ontario Municipal Electric Association Bowmanville Public Utilities and Powerlite Services. The commission also approved paying off the 1942 debenture on March 1 and planned extending the payoff to the 1947 and 1948 debentures, leaving four debentures totaling just under $4,000 pending.
Clarke Township Council held its Inaugural meeting on January 14 1942 with Rev S Littlewood delivering scripture prayers. The council approved minutes, handled communications, appointed officers and representatives, and passed by laws for road funding and appointments. Several bills were ordered paid including hospital, supplies, printing, charity, and cemetery work.
Northumberland and Durham Counties Council will see two changes when it meets for the January session on Tuesday. Reeve G A Edmondstone did not run. deputy reeve C G Morris becomes reeve, with W J Challis elected deputy reeve of Bowmanville. New member F Barnard succeeds R Perrin as reeve of South Monaghan.
The engagement is announced of Lloyd Gerald Gerry Cornish eldest son of Mr and Mrs Fred Cornish Kendal Ontario to Miss Joan Illeen Driscoll younger daughter of Lieut W J Driscoll of The Rifle Brigade and Mrs Driscoll at Tyneham Dorset England on December 14 1941.

Other items include extended unemployment insurance, vast munitions contracts, tire sales restrictions, curtailment of electric appliance manufacturing, Meighen’s York South bid, and a living index dip.
The Orono Telephone Company Limited held its annual meeting in the Orono Town Hall council chamber on Saturday afternoon January 17. Shareholders were present as the financial statement for the company was presented and officers for 1942 were reelected: President Heber J. Louch Vice President Fred Trull Sec Treas W S Cobbledick Asst Sec Treas J M Morris Comptroller Anosa Gilroy Director James Nixon Manager J H Morris.
The Park St United Church annual congregational meeting on Monday January 19 heard from Rev S Littlewood and leaders of church groups about funds raised 727 dollars by the W A and 285 dollars by the WMUS. Reports highlighted parsonage painting donations to war funds and illness aid. Sunday School enrolment 194 with new Good Will class. Adult Bible Class emphasis. Youth Union activities. meeting adjourned with page four continuation.
Reeve Roy Dodge of Cobourg won the warden seat for the United Counties of Northumberland and Durham in Cobourg on January 20 after a six or seven candidate field. Dodge led late rounds with 21 votes to 17 for Kelley and 2 for Calver, built on a long municipal career since 1934, and heads the Lakeshore baseball league at 45.
