The Orono Chamber of Commerce held its annual meeting and election of officers with ten present. President H A Clark and officers were elected for 1942. Red Cross Meeting at Orange Branch in January
Orone Branch of the Red Cross met January 8 in Park Street Church school room with Rev S Littlewood presiding. Treasurer H Murray submitted December financials showing expenses of 161.95 and Jan 1 balance of 1942 481.19. Items from a December bazaar and bills for workroom materials and sewing were approved for payment plus 50 for Rus sian Medical Relief and 50 for POW boxes to Canada. Members thanked Orange Lodge for hall use and a cord of wood was ordered. Letters of thanks from local servicemen were read. The group warned it may dissolve without new members.

Lady Dies After Being Thrown From Auto
Mrs. Pearl Moyer of Toronto died in Bowmanville Hospital from injuries after being thrown from a moving car just east of Newcastle. She rode with taxi driver Horace Cochrane to Colborne when a door opened and wind pulled her out. She suffered a fractured skull and head injuries. Dr. J A Butler treated her. Constable W F Thompson investigated.

Fire damages A. W. Glenney Flour Mill at Newcastle
Fire likely sparked by backfire from a gasoline engine badly damaged the A. W. Glenney flour mill in Newcastle on Thursday evening.
